The Heart Of Thorns: Chapter Two - The Wolf

The Heart Of Thorns
Chapter 2 (rough draft)

The girl was very blissful with the Giant and spent her day’s dancing and singing for him while he smoked his lovely pipe. One day the Giant woke her early morning kissing her forehead and smiling with his eyes. “My Dear little one I must leave you now” The girl started up and looked at him with a worried glance “But giant, what have I done for you to leave me!” She sobbed rubbing her eyes, The Giant let out a chuckle caressing the fringe away from her eyes, “Not to fret my love, I will be back in only days time” she sniffed looking down while folding her hands into her lap “Days, what must you do that will take days?” the giant smirked putting a finger to her nose in a darling manner “Awe, now that is a secret, and when I return you will surely know of it”. With that the Giant said his goodbye.

Over time she heard the small ones speak of the trees beyond, trees with leaves along their roots, they called it a forest and it sounded so beautiful.  She loved the Giants trees so much she couldn’t imagine others One day she searched for this forest of leaves and hummed to herself wondering what adventures and new sights she would see. She danced along and smiled at the clouds passing by, stopping she noticed a dark path in front, the fields lost flowers and casually changed into a bed of leaves, leading beyond into a thick standing of trees. She thought quickly that this must be what the small ones call the forest, her heart felt excited but a tainting fear crept along her spine.

She walked slowly coming closer until she heard the crisp of small leaves among her footing; they looked almost of mermaid scales with a murky tint. The air strangely became colder and her breath was icy with every step. Coming to the hard oaks she laid her hands upon the trunk peering into the forest admiring how dark it gradually became. She smiles excitedly and began to twirl in a dance among the leaves singing a song about mermaid scales in dark waters, arching her back she moved so fluidly it created an illusion like she was swimming through the stinging breeze.

Less to her knowledge she had a spectator within the trees, panting with a bitter breath and glinting his silver teeth. He smelled her along his travels and was even curiouser when he heard the song and movement, now he was yards away from the swimming girl and she was a delight to watch.  He ran at her pouncing and catching her from behind, she spun In shock and landed on her back pushing leaves in a blunder. Shivering with fear she felt the wolfs weight on her chest and his icy breath on her neck. She closed her eyes afraid to see the beast and forced her lips apart.

“Beast you bring pain to my chest and your breath chills my skin, please I was only dancing amongst the leaves, I will go away if you wish it”

The wolf grinned maliciously showing all his pretty razors, “Awe now why would I want such a thing as that, when I see your talents and smell your sweetness, and what brings such a delicacy to my forest”

She shivered to hear his words that were almost whispers and hisses, like a snake with a rumble at the end.

“OH… beast this is your forest? I heard the small ones speak of such a place and I was curious to see its beauty.”
